Erma and Welden Green first opened a business in Safford in 1950 as Green’s Market, located at 1224 8th Ave. They grew that business for 12 years. In 1962, they purchased the local Western Auto Store at the current location of the El Charro restaurant. After four years, they moved to the corner of Main St. and 7th Ave. The building was a former Firestone business in the 50s and later became Stockman’s Bank. As the business grew, furniture became an added product. At that time, Erma and Welden operated one of the largest and most successful businesses of the era in Downtown Safford. In 1987, they purchased an empty Safeway building on Highway 70, 520 West 5th Ave. in Downtown Safford. The building was just the right size for a Western Auto Store and home furnishings business. A year later, Walmart came to Safford, and we adjusted our product mix to meet customer demand. We moved to more furniture and appliances. Western Auto Supply Co. eventually closed all stores in the United States. Before that, we had changed our product mix to primarily home furnishings, tires, and appliances.

Nathan T. Green and David W. Green are the present owners of Green’s Furniture. Wherever the business has been located, the residents of Graham, Greenlee, and Cochise Counties have been the reason for our success. We proudly serve the areas of Safford, Thatcher, Pima, Solomon, Fort Thomas, Duncan, Morenci, Clifton, Willcox, Sunsites, Globe, AZ, as well as Silver City, Lordsburg, NM.
